Toronto, Mississauga & GTA

Velocity Cabling is a commercial network cabling company serving Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. We install structured cabling systems for offices, warehouses, retail spaces, healthcare facilities, and data centres — Cat6 and Cat6A copper for horizontal cabling, and single-mode or multimode fiber for backbone infrastructure. Every installation is designed to TIA-568 standards, tested with a Fluke DSX CableAnalyzer on every run, and fully documented at handover. We are authorized installers for Hubbell, Panduit, and Belden, qualifying your installation for manufacturer-backed channel warranties of up to 25 years.

What is Commercial Network Cabling?

Commercial network cabling — also called structured cabling — is the physical infrastructure that carries data, voice, and power throughout a building. Unlike point-to-point cabling where each device is wired directly to a switch or router, structured cabling organizes all network connections through a central distribution system: horizontal cables run from patch panels in an IDF comms room to faceplates at each work area outlet, and backbone cables connect the IDF rooms to the main MDF. This architecture means any device can be connected to any switch port through a patch cord, changes can be made without pulling new cable, and the entire system is documented and labeled for future reference.

Cat6 & Cat6A Copper

Cat6 for standard office environments at 1GbE and PoE+. Cat6A for 10GbE at full 100m, PoE++, and high-density AP deployments. We advise on the right standard for your environment during the onsite survey.

Fiber Optic Backbone

OM4/OM5 multimode and OS2 single-mode fiber for MDF-to-IDF backbone runs, campus links, and data centre interconnects. Every strand OTDR tested. Supports 10G to 400G depending on fiber type.

TIA-568 Certified

Every copper run tested with a Fluke DSX CableAnalyzer to TIA-568 pass/fail limits. Insertion loss, return loss, NEXT, FEXT, ACR-N, ACR-F, and delay skew verified on every run. Full test report included.

Full Documentation

Floor plans, patch panel schedules, TIA-606 label reports, and Fluke test results delivered at project close. Your IT team has everything needed to manage, extend, and document the infrastructure for years.

Network Cabling Standards — Choosing the Right Specification

The most common question we answer at the start of every project is which cabling standard to specify. Here is the practical breakdown:

Cat6

1GbE at 100m, 10GbE up to ~55m, 250MHz, 30W PoE+. Correct for most standard office fit-outs with run lengths under 55m and no PoE++ devices. Most cost-effective for high drop-count projects.

Cat6A

10GbE at full 100m, 500MHz, 90W PoE++. The recommended standard for new commercial builds, dense AP environments, PTZ cameras, and any project where 10GbE at the desktop may be required.

OS2 SM

Single-mode fiber for building-to-building campus links and MDF-to-IDF backbone runs over 100m. Supports 100GbE and beyond at distances up to 10km+. Required for ISP hand-off connections.

OM4 MM

Multimode fiber for IDF-to-MDF backbone within a building. Supports 100GbE at up to 100m. The standard choice for short and medium backbone runs in commercial office buildings.

25yr

Manufacturer warranty available with Hubbell, Panduit, and Belden Cat6A channel components. Covers cable, connectivity, and installation workmanship — only available from authorized installers.

100%

Every copper run Fluke DSX tested. No sample testing, no skipping marginal-looking runs. Every drop gets a full channel test and the result goes in your documentation package.

Where We Install Network Cabling

We install commercial network cabling across all environments in Toronto and the GTA. Common project types include:

Office Fit-Outs & Refits

New office fit-outs and existing office refurbishments. Workstation drops, meeting room AV connections, phone infrastructure, and wireless AP cabling. Installed and certified in occupied spaces with minimal disruption.

Warehouses & Distribution

High-bay cable tray runs, WMS-ready network drops, dense AP cabling for barcode scanning environments, and Cat6A infrastructure for IP camera and access control systems throughout the facility.

Multi-Floor Commercial Buildings

Floor-by-floor structured cabling with a fiber backbone between MDF and IDF rooms on each floor. We coordinate with property management, work in occupied spaces, and phase installations to avoid disrupting active tenants.

Healthcare & Professional Offices

Medical clinics, dental practices, law firms, and accounting offices requiring clean, documented cabling infrastructure. We work around patient care schedules and coordinate access with office management.

Retail & Hospitality

POS terminal cabling, back-of-house network infrastructure, IP camera drops, and guest Wi-Fi AP cabling for retail stores, restaurants, and hotels. Multi-site rollouts coordinated across GTA locations.

Network Upgrades & Expansions

Adding drops to an existing office, replacing end-of-life Cat5 or Cat5e infrastructure, extending coverage to new floor space, or upgrading a patch panel and comms room. We work within existing pathways where possible.

Our Network Cabling Installation Process

1

Free Onsite Survey

We walk your facility, count drops, measure run lengths, assess cable routing options (ceiling voids, cable tray, conduit), and identify IDF and comms room requirements. We confirm the correct cabling standard — Cat6 vs Cat6A, copper vs fiber backbone — for your specific environment. No charge, no obligation.

2

Written Proposal

Itemized quote specifying cable standard and brand, drop count, patch panel specifications, cable management hardware, labor, and timeline. Fixed price — no change orders for scope that was visible at the survey. We do not begin work without written approval.

3

Pre-Install Coordination

Cable routing, patch panel rack space, and faceplate locations agreed with your IT team or office manager before work begins. After-hours or weekend installation arranged for occupied spaces where required. All scheduling confirmed in writing.

4

Cabling Installation

Cable pulled with correct bend radius and separation from power cabling throughout. Keystones terminated with controlled pair untwist. Patch panels punched and dressed. Cable management installed. All runs labeled at both ends with TIA-606 alphanumeric identifiers.

5

Fluke DSX Testing & Certification

Every copper run tested with a Fluke DSX CableAnalyzer to TIA-568 pass/fail limits. Insertion loss, return loss, NEXT, FEXT, ACR-N, ACR-F, and delay skew verified on every run. Any marginal or failing runs remediated before the test report is produced. You receive the complete test report.

6

As-Built Documentation & Handover

Floor plans, patch panel port schedules, TIA-606 label reports, and the full Fluke DSX test report delivered as a complete package. Your IT team has everything they need to manage, extend, and document the infrastructure going forward. Manufacturer warranty registration processed where applicable.

Network Cabling Toronto — Frequently Asked Questions

What is structured network cabling?
Structured network cabling is a standardized approach to cabling infrastructure in commercial buildings. Rather than running individual cables point-to-point between devices, structured cabling organizes all network connections through a central distribution system: horizontal cables run from patch panels in an IDF closet to each work area outlet, and backbone cables connect IDF rooms to the main MDF. TIA-568 is the governing standard in North America. A properly installed structured cabling system is documented, labeled, tested, and designed to serve a building for 15–25 years.
What network cabling standard should I specify for my office?
Cat6 is appropriate for most standard office environments: workstations, VoIP phones, standard IP cameras, and Wi-Fi 5/6 access points at run lengths under 55 metres for 10GbE or up to 100 metres for 1GbE. Cat6A is the correct choice for new commercial builds, high-density wireless AP deployments, PoE++ devices, and any environment where 10GbE at the full 100-metre channel is required. We advise on the correct specification during our free onsite survey.
How much does network cabling installation cost in Toronto?
Commercial network cabling in Toronto typically ranges from $90–$250 per drop installed, tested, and labeled, depending on cable standard (Cat6 vs Cat6A), building access, routing complexity, and volume. Cat6 drops start from approximately $90–$180. Cat6A drops start from approximately $120–$250. We provide detailed written quotes after a free onsite survey — we do not quote over the phone without seeing the building.
Do you install both copper and fiber network cabling?
Yes. We install Cat6 and Cat6A copper for horizontal cabling (workstation drops, AP drops, camera drops) and single-mode OS2 or multimode OM4/OM5 fiber for backbone runs between MDF and IDF rooms, building-to-building campus connections, and data centre inter-rack links. Most commercial buildings use both: copper for horizontal, fiber for backbone.
How long does a commercial network cabling installation take?
A typical single-floor office of 20–50 drops can be completed in one to two days. Larger multi-floor projects are scoped and scheduled in phases to minimize disruption. We provide a detailed timeline in every written proposal. For occupied offices, we can work evenings or weekends to avoid impacting business operations.
Can you upgrade our existing Cat5 or Cat5e cabling to Cat6?
Yes. We regularly replace end-of-life Cat5 and Cat5e infrastructure with Cat6 or Cat6A in occupied offices. In most cases we can reuse existing conduit and pathway routing, minimizing disruption. We assess the existing infrastructure during the onsite survey and advise on whether a full replacement or a targeted upgrade is the right approach.
Do you serve areas outside Toronto?
Yes. We serve the full GTA including Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Oakville, Hamilton, Kitchener, and surrounding areas. Contact us to confirm availability for your specific location.
