The site
CN’s yard in Vaughan is a working rail yard. Work there runs to the railway’s site safety rules, and access to the track areas is controlled by the railway.
We worked as a subcontractor to the contractor leading the project.
What we installed
- Fiber optic cabling and the wiring to each camera location. More on our fiber optic cabling work.
- Explosion-proof cameras, installed and wired at locations where a standard camera is not allowed.
Why explosion-proof cameras
Parts of a rail yard can be classified as hazardous locations, where fuel or other flammable vapours may be present. Electrical equipment in those areas has to be certified for the location. An explosion-proof camera housing is built to withstand an ignition inside it and stop the flame from reaching the air around it.
The rating covers more than the camera. Cable entries and wiring methods have to suit the hazardous location too, so these cameras are wired with different fittings and methods from standard commercial CCTV.
